Structure Ombrière Photovoltaïque: High-Tech Solar Power Generation

What is a Structure Ombrière Photovoltaïque?

An “Ombrière Photovoltaïque” or photovoltaic sunshade building is a solar system that combines the energy potential of solar panels with useful infrastructure. They are usually installed above parking lots, public areas, or private property to offer shaded areas and generate clean, renewable energy. The photovoltaic panels are incorporated into a shade structure that offers the double benefit of energy generation and climatic comfort.

How Does an Ombrière Photovoltaïque Structure Work?

The primary function of a photovoltaic shade structure is to generate electricity from the sun by trapping the sun’s energy and converting it into electrical energy through the solar panels. The solar panels are installed on a shade system, usually above parking spaces or open areas. The panels’ solar cells capture the sun’s energy and convert it into electricity, which can be used to power adjacent buildings, stored in batteries, or directed back into the power grid.

These structures can take various forms depending on their usage and site. For example, when used in a car park, solar panels are mounted over car parking spaces, providing shade to vehicles while simultaneously generating electricity. This not only conserves space but also helps reduce the urban heat island effect.

Advantages of Structure Ombrière Photovoltaïque

  • Dual Function: Provides both shade and energy generation. It can be used in areas like parking lots, outdoor stadiums, or public spaces to solve multiple problems at once.
  • Environmental Benefits: By generating solar energy, it helps reduce fossil fuel consumption and lowers carbon emissions.
  • Energy Conservation: Photovoltaic energy can be used to power adjacent buildings, cut down on energy costs, or even be fed back into the grid, creating a source of additional revenue.
  • Design in an Aesthetic and Functional Way: These structures can be designed to be both functional and visually appealing, fitting into urban and business environments while providing shade and energy.

Applications of Structure Ombrière Photovoltaïque

  • Parking Garages: Ideal for public and commercial parking garages, as they provide shaded parking spaces while generating renewable energy.
  • Residential Zones: Homeowners can install photovoltaic shade structures on their properties to power their homes, reduce electricity bills, and contribute to sustainability.
  • Public Spaces: These structures can be placed in public squares, parks, and open spaces to provide shade for the public while generating clean energy to power public amenities like lights and fountains.

Design Factors

When designing a photovoltaic shade facility, consider the following factors:

  • Structural Integrity: The structure must be strong enough to support the weight of the solar panels as well as withstand natural forces such as wind, rain, and snow.
  • Maximum Panel Placement: Solar panel slope and tilt must be optimized to maximize sunlight exposure and energy generation.
  • Integration with Existing Infrastructure: The structure should be integrated into the existing urban landscape, combining both functionality and visual appeal.
  • Maintenance: Regular maintenance is required to ensure that the solar panels continue to operate efficiently and last long.
